Kwankwaso Defends Obi's Northern Support Ahead of 2027

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a member of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) and former governor of Kano State, dismissed Ali Modu Sheriff's assertion that Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, cannot garner significant support in Northern Nigeria for the upcoming 2027 general elections. In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Kwankwaso argued that Obi's performance in the 2023 elections, where he secured 2.8 million votes in the region, indicates substantial backing.

He criticized Sheriff for lacking political judgment and highlighted the current economic hardships and dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu's administration as factors that could alter the political landscape. Kwankwaso also noted that Kano State voters are politically mature and have shown support for credible presidential candidates.

He urged Sheriff to focus on addressing security and humanitarian challenges in Borno State rather than making divisive political comments.
