Lawyers Alert and FCDO Strengthen Local Governance in Benue for 2027 Elections

Lawyers Alert, in collaboration with the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), launched a project in Benue State to bolster local governance in Otukpo Local Government Areas (LGAs) ahead of the 2027 general elections. The initiative aims to enhance democratic governance, promote fiscal transparency, and improve accountability following a recent Supreme Court judgment on LG autonomy.

Dr. Rommy Mom, President of Lawyers Alert, highlighted the challenges faced by many LGAs in managing funds effectively due to limited technical capacity.

The project seeks to empower local civil society organizations and build institutional capacity within the Otukpo LGAs to ensure transparent and accountable governance processes at the grassroots level.
