APM Backs Makinde for Opposition Alliance Against Tinubu

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has declared its support for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as the leading candidate for a potential opposition alliance aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. This endorsement was announced by APM's National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, ahead of a meeting scheduled for August 32, 2026, involving the G-100, a political pressure group focused on selecting a single opposition candidate.

Yusuf called on other presidential aspirants, including Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, to set aside personal ambitions in favor of supporting Makinde. He emphasized the need for a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress, noting that discussions among opposition parties are progressing despite competing interests.

Yusuf highlighted Makinde's governance record and popularity among various demographics as key factors that position him as the most viable candidate to defeat Tinubu.
