NDYC Urges Tinubu to Reconsider Sheriff’s Campaign Role

The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review the appointment of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the North-East Zonal Campaign Coordinator for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election. The NDYC's National Coordinator, Comrade Israel Uwejeyan, stated that placing Sheriff in a prominent campaign role could have reputational and strategic implications, particularly in a region affected by prolonged insecurity.

The group expressed concerns that controversies surrounding Sheriff could detract from the campaign's message and create political liabilities for Tinubu. They clarified that their objection is not based on any criminal conviction but rather on the strategic suitability of Sheriff for the campaign.

The NDYC emphasized the need for a campaign that inspires confidence and focuses on security, reconstruction, and youth empowerment in the North-East, which has suffered from terrorism and violence.
