Datti Baba-Ahmed on Peter Obi's Capacity to Fix Nigeria

Datti Baba-Ahmed, who served as the vice-presidential candidate for the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, recently faced criticism for stating that none of the leading contenders for the 2027 presidency, including Peter Obi, have the capacity to fix Nigeria. In an interview on Trust TV’s Daily Politics, Baba-Ahmed explained that his comments were misinterpreted, as he was discussing the need for President Bola Tinubu to ensure a level playing field for all presidential contenders.

He noted that the conversation initially centered on Tinubu and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar before he was asked about Obi. Baba-Ahmed acknowledged that due to time constraints, he affirmed that Obi was included in his statement.

He questioned the backlash against his criticism of Obi, arguing that political figures should be free to change platforms. He also recounted his disagreement with Obi's decision to leave the Labour Party for the African Democratic Congress, advising him against the move.
