NYSC DG Warns Corps Members Against Political Campaigns

On Wednesday, during his visit to the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Katsina, Brig. Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), cautioned corps members against engaging in political campaigns or using their NYSC identity and social media to promote political parties and candidates ahead of the 2027 elections. Nafiu emphasized the importance of political neutrality and warned that any social media activities linked to political promotion while wearing the NYSC identity would lead to appropriate action.

He urged corps members to verify information before sharing it, especially in light of the challenges posed by artificial intelligence in distinguishing genuine content from manipulated materials. Nafiu noted that corps members would be crucial in the 2027 elections as many would serve as ad hoc electoral personnel, contributing to credible elections.

He also encouraged participation in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme. The Katsina State NYSC Coordinator, Evans Okwor, reported that 1,333 corps members were registered for the orientation exercise.
