NYSC DG Urges Corps Members to Stay Apolitical

On Thursday, Brigadier General Nafi’u Olakunle, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), addressed the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the Yakubu Gowon NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Fanisau, Dutse, Jigawa State. He instructed the corps members to maintain neutrality and avoid involvement in partisan politics as political campaigns for the 2027 general elections commence.

Olakunle emphasized that the NYSC was established as a unifying platform and warned that corps members engaging in political activities would face strict disciplinary actions according to NYSC Bye-laws. He reminded them of their loyalty to Nigeria and the importance of respecting the rules and regulations of the scheme.

Additionally, he advised corps members to be security conscious and to take the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program seriously, as traditional job opportunities are diminishing. He assured them that their safety is a priority and that no corps member would be deployed to crisis-prone areas without adequate security guarantees.
