Obafemi Martins Launches Youth Tournament for Tinubu's Campaign

On 11 September 2026, Obafemi Martins, a former striker for the Super Eagles, revealed plans to host a youth football tournament called the "Renewed Hope tournament" in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's campaign for the 2027 presidential election. During an interview on TVC, Martins stated that the tournament is scheduled for November and will include teams from Nigeria's six geopolitical zones, with an additional two to three teams expected to participate.

He emphasized that the initiative aims to create opportunities for young Nigerians through football, stating, “It’s for the Nigerians and the Nigerian youth as well; how we can help them.” Martins confirmed that he would personally fund the tournament. This announcement follows his recent support for Seyi Tinubu, whom he believes could lead the Nigeria Football Federation, citing Seyi's youth and understanding of Nigerian concerns.
