Obafemi Martins Backs Seyi Tinubu for NFF Presidency

Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has endorsed Seyi Tinubu as a candidate for the presidency of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). Martins expressed his support during the Mikel Obi podcast, emphasizing that the 40-year-old businessman possesses the youth and understanding necessary for effective football administration in Nigeria.

This endorsement comes in the wake of a governance crisis within the NFF, where president Ibrahim Musa Gusau, general secretary Mohammed Sanusi, and the entire executive committee resigned due to public pressure following the national teams' failures to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. Gusau's resignation occurred just 34 days before the end of his four-year term, which began in September 2022.

Following these resignations, an interim management structure has been established, and elections have been suspended as governance reforms are implemented. Martins noted that while Seyi Tinubu does not hold an official position in Nigerian football, his engagement with the sport indicates a readiness to contribute positively.
