Obafemi Martins Criticized for Seyi Tinubu Endorsement

Obafemi Martins, a former Super Eagles striker, has received significant criticism for endorsing Seyi Tinubu as a potential leader for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after the mass resignation of former president Ibrahim Gusau and his board. This resignation occurred amid public discontent regarding their leadership, particularly following the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons' inability to secure a spot in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

During an appearance on The Obi One Podcast, hosted by John Obi Mikel, Martins suggested that Nigerian football needed a fresh approach and that Tinubu could contribute positively. However, former international Ifeanyi Udeze criticized this endorsement as a poor choice, suggesting that there are other qualified young candidates.

Social media users also condemned Martins, accusing him of promoting nepotism and political ties, with some speculating that he may be seeking an appointment or contract linked to Tinubu.
