NDC Declares Peter Obi as Top Opposition Candidate for 2027

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is the most popular opposition figure capable of leading a coalition to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. Osa Director, the National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, stated that the party is open to proposals from the G100, a group aiming to unify opposition parties under a single presidential candidate.

However, the NDC insists that the candidate selected must be the "brightest, best and most popular" among the contenders, asserting that Peter Obi fits this description. Director expressed confidence that the G100 would act in the best interests of Nigerians as discussions progress regarding the potential coalition.

This development occurs amidst ongoing efforts by various opposition groups to explore alliances ahead of the election, with the goal of presenting a united front against the incumbent president, who is seeking re-election.
