Victor Advocates for Journalist Protection Ahead of 2027 Elections

Livinus Chibuike Victor, a journalist and press freedom advocate, has called on the Federal Government and security agencies to implement adequate measures to protect journalists and media workers in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. He emphasized that journalists are essential for informing the public, documenting the electoral process, and reporting from polling units and sensitive locations.

Victor stated that journalists must be able to perform their duties without fear of harassment, intimidation, assault, unlawful detention, or obstruction. He urged the government, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies to establish clear safety protocols for journalists, provide rapid-response mechanisms for emergencies, and ensure that security personnel respect the rights of accredited media professionals.

Victor asserted that protecting journalists is crucial for safeguarding democracy and the public's right to credible information, and he called for collaboration among political parties, candidates, security agencies, and media organizations to create a safe environment for journalists.
