SDP Warns PDP Against Violence Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has issued a warning to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the potential for Oyo State to become a battleground, particularly in light of violent incidents that occurred during a PDP congress in Ibadan on Saturday. SDP Chairman Michael Okunlad emphasized the importance of maintaining Oyo's reputation as a peaceful state as the nation approaches the 2027 elections.

Reports indicated that political thugs attacked the local government congress organized by a faction of the PDP loyal to Minister Nyesom Wike, which is currently divided into two factions: one aligned with Wike and the other with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde. Okunlad expressed concern over the violence, which resulted in significant property damage, and called on the Nigeria Police Force to monitor political activities closely.

He urged major political figures to refrain from inciting unrest for personal advantage and reaffirmed the SDP's commitment to peace and unity among its members.
