Umahi Urges NANS to Support Tinubu's Reelection Bid

On Monday in Abuja, Minister of Works, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, called on the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's reelection bid for a second term. During a ceremony where he was named Grand Patron of NANS, Umahi encouraged student leaders to actively engage in national affairs rather than remain politically neutral.

He claimed Nigeria's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is growing faster than the population and stated that funds from subsidy removal and government borrowing are being allocated to road infrastructure development. Umahi mentioned that approximately N782 billion is needed to complete legacy projects under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which he asserted is over 50% complete.

He criticized opposition figures for lacking substantive plans and addressed his disagreement with Peter Obi, asserting that he opposes the prospect of Obi defeating Tinubu. NANS President Akinteye Babatunde Afeez praised Umahi's commitment to infrastructure, emphasizing its importance for students.
