Kwankwaso Confirms One-Term Pact with Obi for 2027

Rabiu Kwankwaso, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and a member of the Democratic Party, has confirmed a written agreement with Peter Obi, the party's presidential candidate. This agreement stipulates that Obi will serve a one-term presidency from 2027 to 2031.

During an interview aired on Channel Television, Kwankwaso expressed his belief that Obi would honor this commitment, stating there is no reason to doubt the former governor of Anambra State. The agreement is designed to facilitate a return of power to the North after a four-year term, with both leaders working together as a team.

Kwankwaso explained that the decision to accept the vice-presidential slot, despite his previous presidential ambitions, was influenced by current political circumstances and the consensus that the presidency should rotate back to the North after four years. He also indicated that he is not planning to contest for the presidency in 2031, focusing instead on immediate objectives.
