Kwankwaso Confirms One-Term Deal with Obi for 2027

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, confirmed during an interview that he and Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), have signed a written agreement committing to a one-term presidency for the 2027 elections. According to the agreement, Obi will serve as president from 2027 to 2031, after which power will return to the north.

Kwankwaso expressed confidence that Obi would honor this commitment, stating that the agreement is not merely verbal but a formal document signed by both parties. This arrangement is part of a broader political understanding aimed at maintaining balance between the north and south of Nigeria.

Kwankwaso emphasized the importance of this power rotation and indicated that the NDC is already looking beyond the 2027 elections, suggesting a medium to long-term political strategy. Obi has previously stated his intention to serve a single four-year term to implement key reforms and strengthen democratic institutions.
