Melaye Accuses Tinubu of Misusing Funds Ahead of 2027

Former lawmaker Senator Dino Melaye accused President Bola Tinubu of allegedly taking money from Nigerians under the guise of fuel subsidy removal and redistributing it to state governors. Melaye made these remarks in response to the ongoing debate surrounding the subsidy policy.

He claimed that the governors benefiting from this financial arrangement cannot ensure Tinubu's re-election in 2027. Melaye stated on Facebook, “You took money away from Nigerians in the name of subsidy removal and gave it to the governors in return for their votes and support.” He further criticized Tinubu for returning to the Nigerian populace, whom he accused of taking money from, to hold the governors accountable as the election approaches.

The discourse on the subsidy policy has intensified, with Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, pledging to restore the subsidy if elected president in 2027.
