APC Chieftain Critiques G-100 Single Candidate Proposal

Hon Duhu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), responded to the G-100 proposal for a single presidential candidate in the 2027 elections, stating that the coalition of one hundred opposition figures is failing due to internal divisions and conflicting interests. He noted that key figures such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso left the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in May, leading to a fractured opposition.

Duhu questioned the likelihood of a consensus candidate, particularly regarding Atiku Abubakar, who has made multiple presidential bids and is unlikely to step down. He also mentioned that Obi's proposal for a single four-year tenure could alienate his support base in the South-East and South-South regions.

Duhu described the G-100 initiative as unrealistic, citing Nigeria's ethnic and religious political dynamics and institutional challenges, including legal disputes involving the ADC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He warned that the APC could exploit the opposition's divisions, allowing President Bola Tinubu to win with a low percentage of votes.
