Peter Obi Refuses to Withdraw for Atiku in 2027 Race

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), announced on Thursday that he will not step down for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in the 2027 presidential race. Obi made this statement during an appearance on an Arise TV program monitored by Tribune Online.

He clarified that the political landscape has evolved beyond individual candidates, stating, “it’s no longer me or him,” as both belong to different parties. Obi, who was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections and previously Atiku's running mate in the 2019 elections, also dismissed rumors about rejecting an offer to be Atiku's running mate, asserting he was not in a position to receive such an offer.

He expressed willingness to engage in alliances that address critical issues like healthcare, education, and job creation to improve Nigeria's productivity and tackle poverty.
