Nwifuru Warns Opposition Amid Local Government Swearing-In

On Tuesday, during the swearing-in ceremony for 13 newly elected local government council chairmen and their deputies at the Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Nwifuru addressed claims from opposition parties regarding harassment and intimidation by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Nwifuru asserted that the APC had not yet begun to threaten political opponents but would do so at the appropriate time.

He directed the newly sworn-in council chairpersons to focus on strengthening the APC's grassroots control in preparation for the 2027 general elections, specifically instructing them not to allow opposition parties to win in their local government areas. The governor also commended the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) for the peaceful conduct of the recent local government elections.
