CGG Urges ADC to Zone 2027 Presidency to South

The Coalition for Good Governance (CGG) has issued a warning to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) regarding the need to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria. The coalition argues that any deviation from this strategy would undermine the hopes of millions seeking political renewal and could spark internal divisions, weakening the ADC's credibility as a viable alternative ahead of the general elections.

The CGG, which includes former national party chairmen and ex-presidential candidates, emphasizes the importance of equitable representation across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. They also criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's assent to amendments to the electoral act, describing it as a dangerous regression that could erode public confidence in the electoral process.

The coalition expressed concerns about the gradual drift towards one-party state rule and urged the international community to encourage Nigerian authorities to reconsider provisions that could be seen as anti-democratic. The statement was jointly signed by Sir Engr Okei Chikwendu, the coalition's chairman, and Attah Ikeje, the coalition's secretary.
