Stakeholders Urge Zoning of 2027 Presidential Tickets

On Tuesday, stakeholders from the South East Enlightenment Group (SEEG), Igbo Leadership Development Foundation (ILDF), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) held a joint press briefing advocating for the zoning of presidential tickets to the South East for the 2027 elections. Dr.

Godwin Udib, the spokesman for the coalition, highlighted the importance of allowing the South East to produce Nigeria's president, referencing the political landscape since 1998. He noted that prior to the 1999 presidential elections, political parties had zoned the presidential ticket to the South West, and he called for a similar arrangement to ensure that the South East is not sidelined.

The coalition urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider shelving his second-term ambitions to facilitate this zoning, allowing an Igbo candidate to emerge. The group reiterated the necessity for equitable power rotation, stressing that the South East has not had a turn in leadership since the inception of the Fourth Republic.
