Enugu Police Rescue 211 Kidnap Victims in 17 Months

The Enugu State Police Command reported the rescue of 211 kidnap victims and the detention of 6,240 suspects over a 17-month period. This period began after Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa assumed office on March 11, 2025.

The detained suspects included 158 for kidnapping, 186 for armed robbery, 188 for murder, and 57 for rape and defilement. Additionally, 273 suspects were linked to cultism, and 63 were detained for unlawful possession of firearms.

The command recovered 156 firearms, including 43 AK-47 rifles and one G-3 assault rifle, along with 1,486 rounds of ammunition. Furthermore, 209 vehicular exhibits, including motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles, were seized.

Giwa attributed these achievements to sustained intelligence-led operations, proactive policing, and effective collaboration with neighboring states. He called for continued support in manpower and logistics.

During a visit, Assistant Inspector-General of Police Miller Dantawaye urged the command to uphold professionalism and public confidence.
