Niger Delta Firms Urge Tinubu Over 33-Month Military Debt

Three companies from the Niger Delta—Peaches Integrated Services Ltd., Etucom Integrated Services Ltd., and Godsam Industrial Services Ltd.—have formally appealed to President Bola Tinubu regarding unpaid rental fees for houseboats provided to the Nigerian military. The outstanding payments have reportedly accumulated over 33 months, during which the companies have continued to support Operation Delta Safe by providing vessels that serve as operational bases for troops in areas lacking proper facilities.

The firms, represented by Jeremiah Oshodin, expressed that the non-payment has severely impacted their financial stability, leading to delays in salaries for workers, including marine engineers and security personnel. They noted that some employees have gone months without pay, affecting their ability to meet essential expenses.

The companies also raised concerns about the maintenance of the vessels, which require regular servicing. They have acknowledged ongoing discussions with the Commander of the Joint Task Force and indicated that the matter is currently before the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.

Their appeal to the President is not intended to interfere with judicial proceedings but seeks verification and settlement of the owed amounts.
