Landslide in Cross River Claims Five Lives Amid Floods

A landslide in Ikot Anwatim, Calabar Municipal, Cross River State, resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including four children, following heavy rainfall on Saturday. The Nigerian Red Cross Society and the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (CRSEMA) are involved in assessing the disaster's impact.

Two individuals, an adult and a child, sustained injuries. The total number of residents affected is yet to be determined.

This incident is among the deadliest rain-related disasters recorded in Cross River during the rainy season. In a statement posted on Facebook, CRSEMA announced that they are conducting a spot assessment and providing humanitarian assistance to the victims' families.

Efa Nyong, the Director General of CRSEMA, led the assessment team to the scene. The agency emphasized the need for communities to remain alert and report signs of erosion and unstable land to avoid high-risk areas during the rainy season.
