Five Dead in Kano Building Collapses Amid Heavy Rain

In Kano, five individuals were confirmed dead following two separate building collapses during a heavy downpour. The first incident occurred at Gaida Sabon Titi, along Salbas Filling Station Road in Kumbotso Local Government Area, where a two-storey building under construction collapsed.

Eyewitness Idris Mustapha Nasir reported that several people were trapped under the rubble, prompting immediate rescue operations by firefighters and local residents. Saminu Yusuf, spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, confirmed that four labourers—Sunusi Surajo (18), Bashir Ibrahim (20), Ibrahim Ibrahim (25), and Abubakar Mohammed (30)—were later pronounced dead at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital.

The second collapse happened at Kurna Islamiya School, also known as Khadijah Idris Bala School, during school hours, affecting nine individuals. Eight were rescued, but a 13-year-old student, Khadijah Mohammed, was confirmed dead.

Yusuf urged caution among residents, particularly builders, during the rainy season to prevent further tragedies.
