54 African Nations to Embrace Nigeria's Safe Schools Initiative

The African Union has announced that 54 African nations will adopt Nigeria's Safe Schools Initiative, which aims to protect educational institutions from the impacts of armed conflict. This decision follows a visit by the African Union's Special Envoy for Children and Armed Conflict, Jainaba Jagn, to Nigeria, where she commended the Nigeria Police Force for its commitment to school safety.

During the visit, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force's dedication to fully implementing the Safe School Declaration and collaborating with educational authorities and relevant stakeholders. The initiative is part of a broader continental effort to strengthen the protection of children in educational settings affected by insecurity.

The delegation included representatives from Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, and Ethiopia, and aimed to study Nigeria's approach to school safety, including the operations of the school protection squad and the command control center framework.
