NSIB and NIMASA Collaborate to Enhance Maritime Safety

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) have formed a partnership to strengthen maritime safety in Nigeria. This agreement was finalized during a courtesy visit by NSIB's Director-General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr, to NIMASA's Director-General, Dr Dayo Mobereola, at NIMASA's headquarters in Lagos.

The collaboration aims to improve safety through structured data sharing, capacity building, and coordinated safety investigations. Captain Badeh emphasized the shared goal of both agencies to enhance safety within Nigeria’s maritime sector, stating that data-driven regulations and rigorous investigations are essential.

Dr Mobereola highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration for a sustainable maritime sector, linking it to Nigeria's maritime blue economy. Both agencies will establish a joint operational committee to oversee the framework's implementation, focusing on information sharing and strengthening investigative capacities.

This partnership is expected to support Nigeria's engagement with the International Maritime Organisation and promote internationally accepted safety standards.
