Cross River Governor Otu Calls for Unity on Independence Day

On Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary, Senator Bassey Otu, the Governor of Cross River State, called for collective efforts among Nigerians to sustain peace, unity, and national development. His message was conveyed by Rt.

Hon. Elbert Ayambem, Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, during an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the Christian Central Chapel International in Calabar. Otu highlighted the importance of nation-building, urging citizens to reject violence and respect the rule of law.

He reflected on the sacrifices made for Nigeria's independence and acknowledged the resilience of Nigerians in facing challenges since 1960. The governor emphasized the need to view the country's diversity as a strength and reaffirmed his administration's commitment to improving the welfare of Cross Riverians through various initiatives.

Archbishop Emmah Gospel Isong, founder of the hosting church, also spoke, urging Nigerians to learn from the past and avoid divisive rhetoric as political activities increase ahead of future elections.
