Seven Miners Die in Plateau State Pit Collapse

On Wednesday evening at around 7 p.m., a mining pit collapsed in Kassa community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of seven miners. Community member Albert Danlami reported that the miners were trapped underground after the earth caved in.

Residents and fellow miners rushed to the site to assist in rescue efforts, but unfortunately, the miners were found dead. Rwang Tengwong, the publicity secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, confirmed the fatalities and noted that some individuals were injured during the collapse.

This tragic incident has reignited concerns about safety conditions at mining sites across Plateau State, where informal and artisanal mining activities are prevalent. This incident follows a major mining disaster on February 19, where an explosion at a mining site in Kampani Zurak, Wase local government area, resulted in at least 33 fatalities, as reported by the Plateau state government.
