Seven Miners Die in Plateau State Mining Pit Collapse

On Wednesday evening, a mining pit collapsed in Kassa community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of seven miners. The incident occurred around 7pm while the miners were working.

Community member Albert Danlami stated that the miners became trapped underground when the ground caved in, leading to a rescue effort by residents and fellow miners. Rwang Tengwong, the Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, confirmed that all seven miners were found dead after rescue attempts.

The disaster has caused significant grief in the community, with residents calling for government intervention to improve mining safety regulations. Timothy Bako, a community member, expressed sorrow over the loss, emphasizing the need for safety measures at mining sites.

Community leaders are urging the Plateau State Government to provide immediate support to the bereaved families and to enforce stronger safety regulations in the mining sector.
