87-Year-Old Charged for Attacking Nigerian Judge

Dahiru Garba, an 87-year-old man from Korawa village, was charged in court after allegedly attacking Hon. Dauda Hamman, an Area Court judge, with a cutlass during a live court session on August 31, 2026, at the Mayo-Ine Area Court in Fufore Local Government Area. The incident occurred while the court was hearing a dispute involving Garba and Ismail Yusuf.

According to the Adamawa State Police Command, Garba struck the judge repeatedly on the hand, resulting in grievous injuries. Following the attack, Garba was arrested at the scene, and the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yola for further investigation on September 4, 2026.

On September 8, 2026, Garba appeared before Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola, where he faced a one-count charge of causing grievous hurt, contrary to Section 219 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State, 2018. He entered a guilty plea, attributing his actions to the devil, and expressed deep regret.

The court ordered his remand at the Yola Correctional Facility pending further hearings.
