Abuja Court Affirms Judgment Barring VIO, Imposes N1m Fine

The Abuja Court of Appeal affirmed a Federal High Court judgment that bars the Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) from stopping, impounding, and confiscating vehicles on the road, as well as imposing fines on motorists. The court awarded a N1 million fine against the VIO.

The case, initiated by public interest lawyer Mr. Abubakar Marshal, highlighted the lack of legal basis for the VIO's actions.

The judgment restrains the VIO from such activities, emphasizing the rights of Nigerian motorists. Justice Evelyn Maha of the Federal High Court issued the initial order.
