Newborn Found Alive After Days Abandoned in Benue Forest
A newborn infant was discovered alive in a forest in Benue, believed to have been abandoned for about three days. The baby was found on Saturday by Mrs Mbakasev Yisa, who heard signs of life from a carton where the infant was wrapped in clothes.
Witness Terkumbur Gabriel Mbaukaan confirmed that the baby was in critical condition upon rescue. After Yisa reported the incident to the local police, officers documented the scene and directed that the baby be taken to a medical facility.
Mbaukaan, a councillor, assessed the situation and sought urgent medical attention, but the first clinic could not admit the baby due to her condition. She was subsequently taken to Dooshima Clinic in Wuese, where she was admitted.
Udigi Waya, the youth leader of Wuese community, corroborated the timeline of the abandonment. The Benue State Police Command, represented by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Peter Aondongu, stated they had not received an official report regarding the incident.
