Newborn Stolen from Benue Hospital by Impersonator

In the early hours of Tuesday, a newborn was stolen from a Family Healthcare Centre in Gboko, Benue, shortly after birth. The baby, who initially did not cry, was taken to a ward with his mother for further care.

A woman, claiming to be a nurse, approached the mother to examine the baby again and took the newborn towards the labour room. The baby's grandmother, suspicious of the woman's actions, followed her but was asked to step back.

Shortly after, the woman disappeared with the baby. Nurses on duty denied any involvement, stating the woman was not part of their staff.

The incident caused significant distress among family members and onlookers, leading to the deployment of security operatives to maintain order. DSP Peter Aondongu, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and stated that it has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation due to its serious nature.
