Police Recover Stolen Newborn in Benue, Arrest Suspects

The Benue State Police Command has arrested several suspects in connection with the theft of a newborn baby in the Gboko area on Tuesday. Police spokesperson Peter Aondongu confirmed the arrests and stated that some suspects were transferred to the state headquarters in Makurdi, while others remain in custody at the Gboko division.
The baby was allegedly stolen from his mother shortly after delivery at a hospital. Eyewitness accounts revealed that a woman disguised as a nurse approached the mother, claiming to need to examine the baby again.
Trusting the woman, the mother handed over the baby, who had initially not cried after birth but later responded normally. The impersonator then took the baby towards the labor room, instructing the grandmother to step aside.
After the baby went missing, hospital staff denied any involvement and claimed the woman was not part of their team. Security was deployed to the hospital to maintain order amid the incident.
