98-Year-Old Kidnapping Case Leads to Death Sentence

On October 26, 2014, Madam Lydia Acho, a 98-year-old woman, was kidnapped in Isuikwuato, Abia State. The police, led by PW4, engaged in a car chase that resulted in her rescue within the Ikwuano local government area.

During the incident, the appellant and a second accused person were apprehended after their vehicle crashed into a tree while attempting to escape. The police found blood at the scene and subsequently rescued the victim from the trunk of the vehicle.

The appellant was later convicted of kidnapping and sentenced to death under Section 3 of the Abia State law prohibiting terror and hostage-taking. The appellant's appeal against the conviction was dismissed by the appeal court, affirming the trial court's judgment.
