Oyo Farmer Mathew Owoad Regains Freedom After Kidnapping

Mathew Owoad, a 60-year-old farmer, was abducted on July 12, 2026, along Igbojay Budo Aar Bush Road in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State. The Oyo State Police Command, through its spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlad, announced on July 13, 2026, that Owoad had regained his freedom following a coordinated joint security operation.

The operation involved sustained investigative efforts and pressure on the abductors, which ultimately led them to abandon Owoad. After his release, he was taken to a medical facility for evaluation and necessary treatment.

The police command indicated that upon completion of medical attention, Owoad would be debriefed as part of ongoing investigations aimed at identifying, apprehending, and prosecuting those responsible for the kidnapping. Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Abimbola commended the security agencies and the community for their support during the operation, reiterating the command's commitment to protecting lives and property in the state.
