Educationist Advocates Security Collaboration for Schools

Maj.-Gen. John Nwaoga (rtd), the executive chairman of Hope John International School in Karu, Nasarawa State, has called for collaboration between school managements and security agencies to enhance the protection of students against banditry.

In an interview, he explained that he engages with military, police, civil defense, and vigilantes to ensure safety around the school. He recommended that local governments partner with state governments to establish vigilant patrols in rural areas.

Nwaoga emphasized that security cannot solely rely on the government and that community involvement is crucial. Additionally, Mrs.

Hope Nwaoga, the executive director of the school, expressed her disappointment with the existence of "miracle centres" that undermine genuine education. She stated that her school does not support such practices and warned against their detrimental effects on students' capabilities.

She urged the government to sanction schools that engage in these practices. Hope John International School is also exploring partnerships with other schools locally and internationally.
