Abia Governor Otti to Clear Salary Arrears for Councillors

Abia Governor Otti unveiled a plan to address the backlog of salary arrears owed to former local government councillors who served from 1999 to 2022. During a meeting with members of the Association of Former Elected Councillors, Otti revealed that the arrears, which accumulated under previous administrations, would begin to be paid by the end of the month in batches.

He acknowledged the complexity of the issue, including ongoing court cases, and emphasized his administration's commitment to resolving inherited challenges. Otti stated that all government workers, whether core or non-core civil servants, including pensioners, deserve equal treatment regarding salary payments.

He praised the association for withdrawing its court case related to unpaid salaries and assured that payments would be made based on court orders. Otti confirmed that the matter would be resolved without further court involvement, and he committed to ensuring equal treatment for all councillors, regardless of political affiliation.
