Abia State Launches Anti-Corruption Steering Committee

On Wednesday, the Abia State Government inaugurated the State Strategic Integrity Account Anti-Corruption Steering Committee in Umuahia, with Benson Ojeiker, the Head of Service, leading the initiative. The committee is tasked with implementing the state's anti-corruption framework immediately.

Ojeiker emphasized that members were carefully selected for their strategic positions to drive the anti-corruption agenda. The committee will have a permanent secretariat staffed by senior government officials to provide policy direction and monitor progress.

Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Paul Ogubunka, also attended the inauguration. Omenka highlighted the committee's oversight role in ensuring effective implementation of the anti-corruption agenda, which is crucial for building public confidence in government institutions.

The initiative is supported by the European Union's rule of law program, which aims to strengthen justice access and promote transparency in public institutions.
