Umahi Advocates for Stronger Anti-Corruption Measures

Engr. David Umahi, the Minister of Works, called for stronger parliamentary oversight and institutional collaboration to enhance anti-corruption efforts in Nigeria.

Speaking at an interactive session organized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Abuja, he described corruption as a major obstacle to national development, undermining public trust and diverting resources from critical sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and social services. Umahi emphasized the need for proactive measures and effective legislative oversight to combat corruption, urging lawmakers to review existing laws to close loopholes that encourage corrupt practices.

He advocated for an evidence-based approach for anti-graft agencies to ensure fair and professional investigations. Umahi underscored the importance of prudent financial management and adherence to due process in project supervision and procurement practices.

He reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to completing critical road and bridge projects across the country while maintaining transparency and fiscal responsibility.
