Abia State Ranked Third Fastest-Improving in Nigeria

Abia State has been recognized as the third fastest-improving state in Nigeria according to the 2026 Philips Consulting State Performance Index Momentum Index, released on Wednesday. Abia achieved a positive momentum score of +0.67, ranking behind Enugu State (+1.15) and Jigawa State (+0.77).

The assessment covered 33 states, with Abia outperforming states such as Osun, Kano, Gombe, Akwa Ibom, Ogun, Lagos, Imo, and Anambra. The Momentum Index evaluates each state's progress relative to the national average, with positive scores indicating faster-than-average improvement.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the state government attributed this achievement to the transformative initiatives under Governor Alex Otti's administration. Key drivers of this progress include investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, digital innovation, and economic development.

The government emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability in governance, aiming to enhance the quality of life for residents.
