Enugu Named Nigeria's Fastest-Improving State in 2026

Enugu State has been ranked as Nigeria's fastest-improving state in the 2026 Phillips Consulting State Performance Momentum Index, achieving a Momentum Score of +1.15, the highest among the 33 states assessed. This score places Enugu ahead of Jigawa (+0.77) and Abia (+0.67), which complete the top three.

The Momentum Index evaluates states based on their improvement relative to the national average, with positive scores indicating above-average progress. The report attributes Enugu's success to deliberate governance, strong fiscal discipline, and sustained reforms.

The South-east region recorded the strongest overall performance among Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. Senator Ken Nnamani and the Enugu State Caucus of the National Assembly congratulated Governor Peter Mbah for the state's unprecedented transformation, positioning him as a model for good governance.

The index combines objective development indicators with citizen perceptions to assess progress over time, highlighting fiscal management and service delivery improvements as key factors in leading states' success.
