Abia Government Rejects Misleading Report on Enyimba Project

The Abia State Government has issued a statement dismissing a misleading media report concerning the arbitration ruling on the Enyimba Economic City project. The report, which was released on Wednesday, misrepresented the tribunal's findings and created a false impression regarding the state's ability to withdraw the certificate of occupancy for the project.

The Attorney General's office clarified that the arbitration tribunal, in its ruling delivered on February 13, 2026, ordered a refund of $400 million previously paid by the state government related to the project's share capital structure. The government emphasized that dissenting opinions from tribunal members do not constitute operational awards and cannot override the tribunal's major findings.

Furthermore, the report failed to address critical aspects of the arbitration award, including the legal doctrine of trust theory, which recognizes that funds remain beneficially attributed to the government. The Abia State Government urged stakeholders to rely on the full content of the ruling rather than selective interpretations.
