Ogun Governor Orders Probe into Ajuwon Building Collapse

Governor Dapo Abiodun has initiated a comprehensive technical investigation into the collapse of a two-storey building located at Baale Road, Ajuwon, in Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State. The building collapsed on Monday afternoon following a severe thunderstorm, resulting in one fatality and several occupants narrowly escaping.

Preliminary findings indicate a catastrophic structural failure, with lower floors sinking into the ground. Eyewitnesses reported the incident occurred around 3:00 p.m., shortly after a heavy downpour and thunderstorms.

Emergency responders, including the Ogun State Safety Office, State Fire Service, and Nigeria Police Force, mobilized quickly for search-and-rescue operations. Although initial searches did not find victims, traces of blood and footprints led to a controlled excavation, recovering one deceased individual.

Governor Abiodun has directed specialists from various agencies to conduct thorough assessments of the collapsed structure and surrounding buildings to ascertain the cause of the failure, which may involve foundation issues or substandard materials. He expressed condolences to the deceased's family.
