Monarch Urges FG to Repair Lokoja-Abuja Highway Urgently

On Tuesday, Dr. Saidu Akawu Salihu, the Ohimegye Igu of Koton Karfe, called for urgent intervention from the Federal Government regarding the Lokoja-Abuja highway to mitigate worsening traffic congestion and accidents during the Ember months. His visit to the Federal Ministry of Works in Lokoja was prompted by a resolution from the Koton Karfe Traditional Council, which tasked him with addressing the deteriorating conditions affecting motorists and communities.

Dr. Salihu highlighted critical sections needing immediate repairs, including stretches between Chikara and Abaji, Aseni and Omoko, and others, emphasizing that these areas have become significant concerns for road users. He warned that persistent gridlock leads to loss of productive time and potential fatalities.

Engr. Owoniya Bankole, the Acting Federal Controller of Works in Kogi State, acknowledged these concerns and noted that some delays were due to the conversion of the highway from asphalt to concrete, which, while taking longer, offers greater durability. He assured that the problematic sections would receive priority attention.
