Abuja-Kaduna Highway Completion Targeted for November
David Umahi, the Minister of Works, announced that the remaining sections of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano highway are expected to be completed by November. During a visit from the Executive members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), he revealed that more than 80% of the N752 billion allocated for the project has been disbursed.
Umahi noted that the Federal Government has previously invested over N200 billion on the segment managed by Julius Berger, which has completed 240 kilometers on each carriageway, totaling 480 kilometers. Currently, 118 kilometers of concrete pavement has been finished on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway, with 164 kilometers remaining.
Additionally, solar-powered streetlights are being installed along the highway, and “superhighway guards” will be deployed to prevent vandalism. Umahi also mentioned that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will be completed despite challenges, with over 50% of the stretch already finished.
Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, the NANS President, recognized Umahi as the Grant Patron of the association for his dedication.
