FG Launches Emergency Repairs on Ekiti Highway

On Tuesday, Bello Goronyo, the Minister of State for Works, visited Ekiti State to assess the deteriorating condition of the Ifaki-Oye-Kabba Road, where motorists have been stranded due to a bad section near Oye-Ekiti. Articulated vehicle driver Quasm Abudu reported being stuck for three days, highlighting the hardships faced by road users.

Bolade Olowo, a local resident, described the situation as “traumatic and unpalatable,” noting that the road's decline is crippling socio-economic activities and poses security threats. Goronyo expressed concern and assured that emergency palliative works had commenced to alleviate the situation.

He stated that the road is a critical economic corridor linking the South-West to the northern part of Nigeria and revealed that a contract for its rehabilitation was awarded to Gamji in 2025, although the contractor faced funding issues. The Federal Government plans to review funding arrangements and has begun immediate interventions through the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), deploying equipment and materials to expedite repairs.
