Accord Party Secures Appeal Court Ruling for Election

The Accord Party declared that the Court of Appeal's judgment, which nullified a Federal High Court order that had deregistered it and four other political parties, protects their participation in the upcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15. Maxwell Mgbudem, the National Chairman of Accord, stated that the original suit aimed to prevent Governor Ademola Adeleke from contesting the election.

He described the appellate court's ruling as a victory for democracy, the rule of law, and due process, restoring confidence in Nigeria's electoral and judicial systems. The Court of Appeal's decision overturned the Federal High Court's earlier ruling, which had ordered the deregistration of Accord and other parties.

Mgbudem emphasized that the judgment reaffirmed the constitutional rights of registered political parties and demonstrated the judiciary's role in correcting judicial errors. He asserted that Accord met all constitutional and statutory requirements for registration and had previously won elections.
